Traditional Aleppo soap is a handmade, hard bar soap associated with the city of Aleppo, Syria. Aleppo soap is classified as a Castile soap as it is a hard soap made from olive oil and sodium hydroxide (lye), from which it is distinguished by the inclusion of laurel oil.
In my attempt to make this soap, and trying to cut down the curing time typically associated with traditional Castile soaps, I added a bit of cocoa butter for hardness and castor oil to help with the lather. It didn't quite work out the way that I planned and these have been curing for a year now. However, they are ready to go now! This is a lovely soap with a soft lather and and interesting scent which comes solely from the laurel berry oil. To me it is very earthy with a smokey note.
This item is available in bars not less than 4 ounces.
